Georgia is among the stricter states: a person may not engage in the practice of court reporting at all unless certified by the Board of Court Reporting of the Judicial Council of Georgia, or holding an emergency judicial permit. The Certified Court Reporter credential is issued for one or more specific methods - machine shorthand, voice writing, or another method authorised by law - so the certification is method-specific rather than general. The Board accepts passing scores from the NCRA or NVRA examinations, the Georgia Licensing Exam, or AAERT CER and CET exams.
